Poem for the Month of April, Formerly Known as the Cruellest Month

Love, Actually

Once your heart has been crushed, it is

Softer, bendable: such things are resilient.

Once broken, the pieces never break

Again, but give way easily to the push

And pull of life. Perhaps this is the wisdom

Of our foremothers, who made their

Pictures with broken tiles, with tiny pieces

Of brightly colored glass, outlined in lead.
